1. Mini Fridge
One of the top dorm room must haves you need to have is a mini fridge. A mini fridge is where you’ll store all your food. There are several on the market that will be perfect for your dorm.
2. Microwave
The second dorm room appliance you need is a microwave. You’ll need a microwave to warm any food. I used my microwave daily during my freshman year.
3. Rice Pot
One of the best gifts my friend bought me was a DASH Mini Rice Cooker. I wished I had this in my dorm back in college because it’s small and I could have made more than just rice and soups. This rice cooker is cute and holds makes about 2 cups of rice. It also includes a recipe book.
4. Dash Mini Waffle Maker
Another dorm room appliance you might want to consider getting is the Dash Mini Waffle Maker. I got this when it first came out when I was in college and still love it. If you love waffles, then this will be a great appliance to have for breakfast on the weekends. I’ve tried even making cinnamon roll waffles with it and it was delicious.

One hack I wish I knew earlier in college is to stop buying huge bottles of water and buy a Brita Filter Pitcher. This pitcher will save you money and the pain of carrying a package of water bottles to your dorm. I currently use this one in my apartment.
13. Dash Mini Grill
If you want to make hamburgers or grill anything small, then this is the DASH product for you. This would be great to cook homemade egg mcmuffins or cook any meat.

I underestimated the need for a humidifier in my dorm. IDK if it was because I went to school in Louisiana where it’s extremely humid every day or that we couldn’t open our dorm windows and had no fans, but my dorm room was so stuffy. I needed a humidifier to freshen the air. Also, it helped break up mucus when I got sick.

17. Clothing Steamer
Don’t worry about bringing a bulky iron and iron board to your dorm. Get a clothing steamer to get the wrinkles out of your clothing items. I wish I had one during my freshman year because so many of my clothes were wrinkly.

Other Appliances For Dorm Rooms:
18. Fan/Handheld Fan
Some dorm rooms do not have air conditioning. A dorm must-have appliance is a fan. Even if you have an air conditioner in your dorm room, it’s nice to have one since there will be days when it’ll be hot on campus. I also had a small fan that connected to my phone one summer working on campus.
I wish I knew about portable fans during my freshman year (again, we have no ceiling fan or wouldn’t open windows.) Having one would have been so nice while walking on campus to my classes.
Optional Appliances/Ask Your Dorm Building
Some appliances are amazing to have, but your dorm room might not allow them. Some of these I would wait to get until you’re in a college apartment and have more freedom with what you can bring and have more space.
19. Makeup Refrigerator
If you are a makeup or skincare person, then having a cosmetic fridge can be something you can bring to your dorm. You can also keep snacks in there.
People also use it to keep drinks cool at their job. I say that this is optional since if you have a mini fridge already, then it’s an optional dorm room appliance.

20. Air Fryer
Okay, I’m going to be honest. I’ve heard mixed things about bringing an air fryer to dorms. Some dorm rooms do, while others don’t. There do pose a fire hazard and may trigger a smoke detector.
21. Crockpot
I got a crock pot during my freshman year and honestly didn’t use it. IDK how I didn’t get caught with it. But if you can manage a crockpot to make dinner then maybe buy it. Honestly, I think one of the Dash mini appliances is suitable for a college student versus a crockpot.
